In this case Vico Magistretti was his own client; he restructured this small house in two stages, turning it into his buen ritiro in the hamlet of "La Serra" in the Lerici municipality in Liguria. La Serra was also the name of the sofa designed for this house and produced by De Padova. Drawings dated 1990 show the first design of the house, while those dated 1997 illustrate the enlargement with the ground and first floors. While restructuring the house Magistretti also worked on the design of the garden together with Elena Baldari Berrone.

Of all the three floors illustrated in the surviving documents, it is the ground floor - with the living room - that plays a key role. Many of his sketches analyse the advantages and disadvantages of the arrangement of the chairs, tables, and kitchen in the three rooms placed next to one another. The guest rooms, with two single beds and a small private lounge (which could be turned into another bedroom if needed), were positioned on the upper floors. The master bedroom with a bathroom and walk-in closet were on the third floor.
