The coming together of Magistretti and Cassina always assures an original and simple result suitable for modern lifestyles. The Genoa sofa testifies to the need to upgrade a 'static' object such as a two- or three-seater sofa to create an object reflecting the contemporary image of simplicity.

The sofa, a two- or three-seater in the basic model, is conceived as a sail that, according to which direction the wind blows, aft or stern, assumes a more or less curved configuration in order to reign in the largest possible amount of wind. The sofa is designed in the traditional linear configuration of two-seaters but, by rotating two seats around a pivot, it can transform and configure a third seat in the centre. In this new configuration, the two end seats face each other, creating a situation that favours conversation, while the sofa assumes a versatile semi-circular shape capable of adjusting to several spatial arrangements.

The coffee table consists of a steel frame painted dark grey and contoured wood surfaces in charcoal grey, white or brick. The table surfaces are wedge-shaped so as to make it possible to dovetail them to create different configurations that adapt to the Genoa transformable sofa.
