Chaise, Chaise Longue
Vico Magistretti
Patricia Urquiola
The Chaise armchair, in the Chaise Longue version, reinterprets the transformable furniture concept that avoids relying on complicated mechanisms and that boils down to an elementary principle of motion: the seat slides along two drawn aluminium rails along the whole length of the seat according to an inclination that assures comfortable seating. The armrest is designed to be functional to the change of level of the seat, and becomes a characteristic feature of the chaise longue. It represents a new approach to conceiving an upholstered piece of furniture: the foams are reduced to a minimum thickness and it uses leaf springs in the foam-covered metal structure to assure the necessary bounce of comfortable seating.
