Amaja
The table was put into production by Gavina in 1960 and is a re-edition of the preceding model designed by Vico Magistretti and produced by Azucena to furnish the Grande Albergo Roma in Piacenza. Used in two famous interior design projects by the same Magistretti for the homes of Bassetti (1956-57) and Gavazzi (1951; 1957-58), this sleek table consists of a lacquered curved steel base, a wooden elliptical top (originally in lacquered and brushed blockboard) with a tapered edge and a lacquer finish, and spherical rubber feet. In the first edition of this table, the top was in solid walnut, the legs in red-lacquered steel and the feet in ebony.
