The Arcadia coffee table, as many other items designed by Magistretti and produced during these years by Artemide in the reinforced resin series of furniture, proposes an aesthetic that is strictly connected to the production technique. Arcadia was produced in two dimensions, of 80 and 100 cm in length in GRP (glass fibre reinforced plastic), a thermosetting plastic material consisting of a thick meshwork of glass fibres impregnated with polyester resin. Arcadia is one of the design objects that Magistretti developed by exploiting the "resistance of shape", a way of giving rigidity to plastic materials through their geometric configuration, and a design concept already experimented in other projects ranging from the Selene chair to the Chimera lamp and the Stadio table and others. The performance of GRP, especially shock-, bend- and scratch-resistant, also enduring high temperatures, compounded with its weather-proofing features, make it especially suitable also for outdoor use.
