The Omega lamp, in the hanging and ceiling version, was part of the first series of lamps designed by Vico Magistretti in the course of the first 10 years of Artemide's history. The lamp features an internally frosted glass diffuser (later also used in the Erse, Clitunno and Clinio lamps) produced by "horizontally removing two slices from a smoked glass sphere placed around an inner opaline globe" supported by a crossed brass sheet frame connected to a rigid stem; the diffuser is connected to the frame by four brass clasps. For the 1999 Cologne Furniture Trade Fair, Artemide put back into production 18 lamps, including Omega, that were created in the '60s by some of the most famous Italian designers, including it in its Modern Classic catalogue.

The Omega lamp was also in Magistretti's design project (1967) for the Paris shop of Cerruti 1881.
