Vico Magistretti, together with the architects Osvaldo Borsani, Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Carlo Casati, Ignazio Gardella, Mario Righini, and consultants Luciano Minguzzi (sculptor) and Ennio Morlotti (painter) were members of the Commission tasked with organising and preparing the Section on Standards.
Magistretti was commission coordinator.

The formal and material characteristics of a standard piece of furniture, designed after extensive study and continuous experience, make it perfectly suited to its function.
The objective of the Section is to show how a standard piece of furniture can be designed, combined, varied and imaginatively crafted so as to influence and express a certain personality and taste in household furnishings.
